Sheth CN Vidyalaya. The first step of Vidyavihar in the field of education. After starting the Boy’s hostel in the year 1912, the school was started with one class in the year 1926, considering the educational need of the students. Shatavdhani Pandit Shri Dhirjalal Tokarshi and Indumatibahen Sheth were the pioneering teachers in this school and they laid a strong foundation. Many alumni have spread the fame of Vidyavihar in various fields all over the globe. The school honored as the ‘Best School’ in Gujarat. It has a leading position in the society, as a mother tongue educational organization.
Prarthana Mandir Activities
The prayer in the Prarthana Mandir is the distinct identity of Vidyalaya. Students of standards IX to XII render prayer in a group everyday and the atmosphere is charged with an unearthly feeling for one and all present. Its daily prayer is conducted by the music teacher and the singers are the students themselves.
During the year four programmes per class are organized under the guidance of teachers. As the students are themselves involved in the conception through execution, these activities help them acquire qualities like elocution, leadership, team sprit etc. Eminent literatures, educationists, artists and professionals are invited to deliver talks on a wide spectrum of topics. Birth and death anniversaries of great people are occasions to recall their constitution and homage is paid to them for living a life which holds a beacon for the generation next. Experts provide useful information about career options open to students passing their standard XII examinations.
The school organizes various events competitions which are an annual feature. These are Mehndi, drawaing, rangoli, sugam sangeet and sports. The annual navratri garba function is managed and hosted by the students. The orchestra also consists of the students.
The School orchestra is regularly invited to participate on Doordarshan for national songs, shaurya geet, prayers songs and many other programmes.
With a view to making students aware of the principles of democracy and also to cultivate qualities such as leadership, sense of responsibility, cooperation and self- regulation, elections to class panchayat and school panchayat are held. They are assigned various tasks such as cleaning, maintaining discipline during programmes, anchoring, tree plantation etc and in the process they become confident, disciplined, dedicated and responsible human beings.
In academics, Vidyalay students have a pride a pride of place among the top-notchers. With almost monotonous regularity they steal the limelight and manage to get admitted to prestigious institutions of higher learning – be it IIM, IIT or any other national level institution cracking the toughest CA, CS, CAT, JEE, NEET, Maths Olympiad and other competitive examinations.They also excel in music, art and craft competitions with flying colours.
The library is a rich source of knowledge and information with more than 36,000 books, magazines and journals. Some out-of-prints and encyclopedias can be found in the library which are a veritable treasure trove.
